About

Sergio J. Quiñonez, better known as SURGE, is a Los Angeles–born, Miami-raised contemporary artist whose bold line work, electric color palettes, and cartoon-inspired characters have become fixtures across South Florida and beyond. After a decade as a creative director in advertising, he founded Illsurge, LLC in 2016 and shifted full-time to murals, sculptures, and immersive installations that fuse pop-culture energy with his Latino heritage. His signature style—flat, vibrant color fields edged by thick outlines—animates everything from Wynwood walls to live art activations for Formula 1 Miami at Hard Rock Stadium, Nike, Adidas, Pepsi, and the Miami Dolphins.

SURGE’s portfolio now spans city commissions, stadium concourses, and large-scale brand collaborations. Along the way he has introduced original characters like MINGO, Teal and Drip, mentored youth through Boys & Girls Clubs and the Jason Taylor Foundation, and curated multi-artist programs that spotlight new artists. Whether electrifying a public plaza or guiding emerging painters, SURGE channels the same playful spirit that once filled his childhood sketchbooks—celebrating creativity, community, and the joy of color in every environment he touches.
